We all know what we are expecting tonight when Derek Chisora and Kubrat Pulev step through the squared circle… WAR!
Derek Chisora has become a fan favourite over the last few years, giving his all in every fight and always giving the fans what they want to see. The Carlos Takam fight is one that springs to mind! Kubrat Pulev is an interesting opponent for Chisora. Pulev has boxed at a high level all his career, beating Chisora in 2016 for the European title.
However, outside of Anthony Joshua, Pulev has not competed anywhere near the level Derek Chisora has in recent years. Despite 3 of these 5 fights being losses (robbed of at least a draw in the first Joseph Parker fight), Artur Szpilka, David Price, Oleksandr Usyk, and Parker twice are a far higher level of opponents then Pulev’s last 5 fights (Hughie Fury, Bogdan Dinu, Rydell Booker, AJ, and Jerry Forrest).
I am expecting a dominant performance by Chisora on Saturday with Pulev being awkward early on. Eventually, Chisora’s will get the stoppage with his recent form being the difference.
Israil Madrimov Vs Michel Soro
This is the fight of the night for me!
The first fight was very impressive, Madrimov was winning most of the exchanges but the end of the fight was very controversial…
In the 8th round, Madrimov was letting his hands go with Soro not returning. The bell goes but neither the referee, nor the fighters, heard the bell. 10 seconds later, the referee stops the fight.
Soro has been given a lifeline with the WBA ordering a rematch for the final eliminator for Jermell Charlo’s WBA ‘Super’ World title. A win would secure a third world title shot for Soro.
However, it has been a very fast rise for Madrimov and I believe he will prove he is a level above Soro once again. Continuing the momentum of his campmates Murodjon Akhmadaliev and Dmitry Bivol!
Ramla Ali Vs Augustina Rojas
A true pioneer in the sport of boxing. Ramla Ali fights in front of a crowd for the first time in the UK. Ali has overcome a huge amount of prejudice to become the first Somalian boxer in history to compete at an Olympics, and the first female to turn over as a pro.
Despite an unsuccessful Olympic campaign, representing Somalia is still a major achievement. Now moving back to the professional ranks and with a stoppage win in her previous fight, I’m sure Ramla Ali can continue this momentum and push for a world title shot early next year.
Ramla Ali is my one to watch for tonight!
Felix Cash Vs Vaughn Alexander
One of Britain’s rising stars returns to the ring hoping to gain some well needed momentum in his career.
Definitely not the opponent Felix Cash would’ve wanted to be in the ring with tonight, but a win will edge him one step closer to a European title shot!
I am expecting a clinical performance from Cash tonight, then hoping for him to fight for the European title next. The long rumoured Kamil Szeremeta fight would be a perfect first defence for Cash.
The Undercard
Caoimhin Agyarko fights Lukasz Maciec at Super-Welterweight. It will be a huge statement if Agyarko stops Maciec, especially after Maciec went 10 rounds with Anthony Fowler in February. The ibox Gym is on fire at the moment with Agyarko aiming to continue the momentum of campmates Skye Nicolson and Dennis McCann.
Fabio Wardley returns to the ring against Chris Healy as a last-minute replacement. This seems to be the final barrier to Wardley’s British title fight against Nathan Gorman, with both Eddie Hearn and Wardley seeming confident the fight will happen.
Wardley’s recent collaboration with Ipswich Town is a great move. Look at Ricky Hatton with Manchester City and Josh Warrington with Leeds United, British fighters having the backing of their local football club always provide great fight nights.
The best heavyweight prospect in Britain, Solomon Dacres, returns to the ring after a long period out through injury. Dacres is an incredible talent and can be progressed very quickly.
Derek Chisora’s featherweight prospect, Yousuf Ibrahim will also feature on the card. The young fighter looks to move to turn 2-0 tonight.
