Nick Ball looks to use Rey Vargas draw as motivation for Ray Ford clash on June the 1st.

Liverpool’s Nick Ball has explained he will be using the draw to WBC Featherweight World champion Rey Vargas last time out as motivation for fight with WBA Featherweight World champion Ray Ford on June the 1st.

Back-to-back World title fights are hard to come by for fighters who aren’t champion but Ball’s performance against Vargas on March the 9th proved he is an established world level contender. Ball was very unlucky not to get the decision on the Anthony Joshua/Francis Ngannou undercard, landing a split-decision draw against the champion despite scoring 2 knockdowns.

Speaking to International Boxing News, Ball said he is “definitely” using the draw to Vargas as motivation:

“It’s more fuel to the fire. (I’m going) to take it out on the next opponent.”

Ball and Ford fight as a part of the Queensberry vs Matchroom Boxing 5vs5 tournament, making up the undercard of Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The tournament is a new concept where the best fighters from both promotional outfits go head-to-head to decide British promotional supremacy. Ball represents Team Queensberry, Ford represents Team Matchroom. As the only, officially announced, World title contest in the tournament, Ford vs Ball provides additional boxing supremacy to the 5vs5.

Ray Ford himself is coming off an excellent performance against Otabek Kholmatov to secure the title but Nick Ball and his training team at the Everton Red Triangle will be confident in bringing the belt back to Liverpool on June 1.

All eyes on Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
