Anthony Joshua’s former trainer Tony Sims is currently training alongside WBC Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury ahead of his undisputed title fight against Oleksandr Usyk on May 18 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Sims is in Riyadh training Joe Cordina for the second defence of his IBF Super-Featherweight World title against Anthony Cacace on the undercard of Fury/Usyk. Sims, Cordina and Fury have been photo’d together training alongside each other at the facilities in Riyadh.

Anthony Joshua and Sims worked together for multiple fights including Joshua’s British Heavyweight title classic against Dillian Whyte in 2015 and when he won his first World title, the IBF Heavyweight title against Charles Martin in 2016. Rob McKraken then took over as Joshua’s head trainer but Sims remained in the corner for a couple more fights, most notably Joshua’s World title unification against Wladamir Klitschko at Wembley Stadium.
Sims has also cornered Fury’s fights in the past, most notably his first fight with John McDermott for the English Heavyweight title in 2009.
Joshua, in more recent times, has trained with Robert Garcia, Derrick James and now, Tyson Fury’s former trainer, Ben Davison. Joshua has been going from strength to strength under Davison, securing two stoppage victories in two fights.
With the biggest fights heading to Saudi Arabia, a potential fight between Joshua and Fury appears more and more likely. Whilst Fury and Usyk have a contracted rematch tied into their fight for undisputed, Joshua seems the likely candidate for Fury’s next fight after.
With Joshua now training with Fury’s old trainer, would it be beyond the realm of possibility that Fury could call up Tony Sims to assist the Team in a potential fight with Anthony Joshua?
In 8 days’ time, Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk will collide for undisputed Heavyweight titles. Joe Cordina will defend his IBF Super-Featherweight World title against Anthony Cacace. Other stellar fights on the card include the rematch between Jai Opetaia and Mairis Briedis as well as another Heavyweight collision between Frank Sanchez and Agit Kabayel.
