6-0 Middleweight contender Mark Dickinson has announced he has changed training team and has linked up with elite trainer Tony Sims.
Dickinson is coming off a very impressive stoppage victory against Grant Dennis in a final eliminator for the English Middleweight title but has decided to go a different route…
Dickinson’s first fight under Sims will be in Matchroom Boxing’s latest edition for the PrizeFighter tournament in Osaka, Japan on July 15. Dickinson was originally penned in to fight in the tournament in April against Annuel Ngamissengue but has a new opponent for the rescheduled date. Dickinson will now fight former Japanese Middleweight champion Kazuto Takesako (16-2-1) in the first round of PrizeFighter.
Originally from Newcastle, Dickinson began his amateur boxing career at Birtley Boxing Club under the guidance of Graeme Rutherford until he made the move down to Essex to turn professional with Ben Davison. Heading into his fight with Ben Ridings in March 2023, Dickinson made the decision to team back up with Rutherford.
Now, the Middleweight contender begins a new chapter of his career back in Essex with Tony Sims who has trained the likes of Anthony Joshua, John Ryder and Darren Barker. Sims is renowned for developing young prospects into World level contenders; Joshua (Heavyweight), Barker (Middleweight) and Joe Cordina (Super-Featherweight) all won IBF World titles under the guidance of Tony Sims.
It is not just at World level where Sims has had success with Middleweights, he took Felix Cash from his professional debut to winning British and Commonwealth Middleweight titles.
Tony Sims and championship Middleweights go hand-in-hand with the new breed coming through the Matchroom Gym with the likes of George Liddard and Jimmy Sains.
The journey begins July 15.
