Liverpool’s Peter McGrail bounced back from shock defeat to Ja’Rico O’Quinn with a classy performance against former British Super-Bantamweight champion Marc Leach on Saturday (April 27). From the beginning McGrail set a high pace, in and out with his feet and not taking any unnecessary risks. Leach’s experience was clear from the start, making it difficult for McGrail to land clean. It was an impressive win for McGrail, especially coming off the knockout loss, dominating every single round against a former champion.

As for what’s next, McGrail has options. He made it clear that the rematch with O’Quinn is his main priority, a fight that was originally scheduled for the weekend. The fight with Leach was also a final eliminator for the British title, currently held by Dennis McCann. This fight would seem likely with Matchroom Boxing and Queensberry Promotions continuously planning cross promotional fights.

Junaid Bostan secures the Performance of the Night after a punch perfect performance against Jack Martin, picking up the champion’s Commonwealth ‘silver’ title in the process. Bostan was making Martin miss and pay in quick succession; it seemed only a matter of time before Martin was going to feel the pace of the fight. A lot of Bostan’s power punches were coming off the back hand but it was the lead left hook that sent Martin to the canvas and stopped the fight. A win secures Bostan a shot at English Super-Welterweight champion Lee Cutler.

Beatriz Ferreira put on a brutal performance against Yanina Lescano picking up the IBF Lightweight World title in the Fight of the Night. Ferreira showed her level, putting on a savage beat down on Lescano from start to finish. Lescano played her role well, having success and showing Ferreira the strength of a natural Lightweight. The fight was called off by referee Howard Foster after a terrible cut to Lescano’s eye. Ferreira picks up the IBF Lightweight World title via technical points decision to set up a potential in-house unification with WBO World champion Rhiannon Dixon.

Hamza Uddin burst onto the scene securing the Prospect of the Night. This crowd pleasing, hard-hitting Flyweight put in a very impressive display. The knockout was unbelievable, two massive right hands sending his opponent to the canvas. With performances like that, I would put Uddin on as many fight cards as possible. He has the potential to bridge the gap with the casual boxing audience, similar to what Ben Whittaker is doing.

Eltham’s Maiseyrose Courtney successfully secured the win in a tough eight contest against Giuseppina Di Stefano. It was a hard-fought fight that Maiseyrose came out on top in, doing very well to not let Di Stefano land clean. The rounds, against her most difficult opponent to date, will prove valuable ahead of being ordered to fight against the European Flyweight champion Chloe Watson.

Elsewhere on the card were impressive points wins for Joe McGrail, Frankie Stringer and Ste Clarke.
