Marc Leach vs Liam Davies... AND THE NEW!

Updated: Oct 7, 2022

Marc Leach came up short in a closely contested fight on Saturday night against Telford’s own Liam Davies. Davies won the contest in his hometown by unanimous decision, the scorecards read 116-112, 115-113, and 118-111.

Both men were cut early in the contest, with Davies scoring a first-round knockdown. The shot came from Leach pressing forward only to be caught with a beautifully timed right hand. It was clear from the opening exchanges that Davies’s physical advantage would cause Leach problems.

In the second half of the fight, Leach managed to take control by making Davies miss. Leach was relaxed after the initial shock of the knockdown and kept pressuring forward throughout the remaining rounds.

Round 10 was a brilliant round for Leach, most thought the fight could go either way from here.

There was a final push from Davies in round 12, the crowd knew nothing would stop him to win the British Title… AND THE NEW!

Davies, now 12-0, wants to push on to face current European champion Jason Cunningham.

Cunningham faces Zolani Tete July 2 at Wembley Arena, live on BT Sport and I’m sure Davies will be watching closely.

Ijaz Ahmed vs Quaise Khademi 3

Ijaz Ahmed and Quaise Khademi fought once again and neither after the trilogy had reason to celebrate. The fight ended in another draw with the scorecards reading 115-112 Ahmed, 114-113 Khademi, and 114-114.

In the early rounds, Khademi’s slick boxing and ring intelligence proved to be the difference between both fighters. He was walking Ahmed onto powerful uppercuts and making him miss with relative ease. However, Ahmed’s pressure could not be overlooked as the fight went on.

It was clear to see Ahmed would not stop, he would land powerful punches which even seemed to have Khademi in trouble at times.

How you scored the fight depended on what you prefer to watch. Would the judges prefer Khademi’s slick boxing and ring IQ, or would they prefer to watch Ahmed be the pressure fighter? Regardless of the result, I don’t believe anyone would object to seeing the fight for a fourth time.

The Undercard

Ethan James breezed through journeyman Lee Connelly with a very mature performance. James took his time, sitting down on his punches throughout. The referee scored all 8 rounds to James, the scorecard reading 80-72.

Joe Gallagher trained Callum Thompson moved to 4-0 defeating Jordan Ellison 40-36. Amar ‘The Prodigy’ Akbar impressed as he defeated Matar Sambou 40-36 on the referees scorecard. ‘The Prodigy’ moved to 3-0 and is definitely a fighter to keep an eye on!

Willy Hutchinson stopped Karel Horejsek by Technical Knockout, with Horejsek not wanting to continue after round 4. It was great to see Hutchinson back in the ring after his defeat to Lennox Clarke, looking forward to seeing how his career will progress.

Elsewhere on the card William Hayden, Raheem Muhammed, Muhammed Ali, George Bunce all progressed with points wins. Ezra Taylor moved to 3-0 stopping Veselin Vasiliev in round 3. A very spiteful performance from the man from Nottingham.
