A Reflection on Katie Taylor Vs Amanda Serrano

Katie Taylor Vs Amanda Serrano was one of the most historically significant fights to ever take place.

It was one of the best fights I have ever seen and that is weeks after Leigh Wood Vs Michael Conlan.

Katie was dominant throughout the fight. Whilst Amanda was applying more of the pressure, nothing significant was landing. The harder/cleaner shots were from Katie. However, THAT 5th round!

As a Katie fan I was worried the whole round, Amanda was relentless! It was the only time I have ever thought Katie was in trouble of being stopped. However, Katie came back strong and won the sixth! In the end I had it 97/93 in Katie’s favour, even with the pair going to WAR in the last 30 seconds!

It was a historic night for boxing overall with Skye Nicolson being the first Australian female to box at Madison Square Garden and Franchon Crews-Dezurn defeating Elin Cederroos to become the undisputed super-middleweight world champion.

Skye continues to grow in confidence with every fight, catering to each step-up that is put in front of her. Skye is difficult to hit clean and uses her reach and distance so well. It won’t be long before she joins Ebanie Bridges and George Kambosos Jr at world level.

Crews-Dezurn Vs Cederroos was a WAR, with offence being the only line of defence. Crews-Dezurn was in control, with her pressure and power shots being main difference. Make no mistake, Cederroos was a live opponent throughout.

Liam Smith Vs Jessie Vargas lived up to the hype, with Smith proving why he is a problem for anyone at world level. Vargas was giving off nervous energy at the weigh-in and it showed. Beefy was ultimately too big and too strong for Vargas.

Two prospects continued their rise to stardom. Galal Yafai and Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams breezed through their tests as if their opponents were journeymen. Ammo was vicious from start to finish; he now needs to take significant step-up with a prime slot on the main DAZN broadcast. Galal continues to impress with the Olympic gold medallist gaining a 2nd round stoppage victory. His punch variety was incredible, never slowing down and throwing each punch with dangerous intent. Look at Cartagena’s coach when he stopped the fight, he saw something special in Galal.

This event was promoted with perfection. Both Eddie Hearn and Jake Paul played their part to make this event as huge as possible. Neither overshadowed the fight, allowing Katie and Amanda to own this historic moment and they did!

Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano had the best fight to ever take place at Madison Square Garden.

History, made. #AndStill
