Tonight, Sky Sports and Boxxer will showcase talent that many believe are the future of British boxing.
Adam Azim
Adam Azim is one of the most exciting prospects in world boxing.
He’s been providing audiences with highlight reel knockouts within 4 fights and is quickly becoming a fan favourite. His blistering hand speed and power is setting him apart from other prospects, he has the potential to be progressed very quickly. The McGuigan camp is gaining some serious momentum and Azim has the perfect opportunity to continue this.
The stage is set for Adam Azim to breakthrough to the next level in the professional ranks.
Karriss Artingstall – The One to Watch
The Olympic Bronze medallist Karriss Artingstall is set to make her long anticipated debut. I am expecting a similar performance to Lauren Price’s debut, with Karriss carrying her Olympic pedigree into the professional ranks with ease. Finding the range with the jab and then throwing combinations when the time is right. In and out no, need to rush any of her work.
Any Olympic medallist making their debut deserves the hype, therefore Karriss Artingstall is my one to watch for tonight’s fight night.
Sam Eggington
Let’s be clear, Sam Eggington should not be on a show that is meant to be highlighting the up-and-coming talent within British boxing. However, is anyone mad about seeing Eggington in action again?
He is never in a dull fight and always comes to get the win, for this reason he has become a fan favourite over the years. With his fights with Ted Cheeseman and Bilel Jkitou both winning the ‘Fight of the Year’ award by the British Boxing Board of Control, the stage is set for Sam Eggington to entertain, once again.
Fighting for the IBO World Title allows Eggington to claim a small piece of the World scene.
The BOXXER Series winners – Dylan Cheema and Cori Gibbs
There is a lot of excitement around BOXXER series winners Dylan Cheema and Cori Gibbs. However, I am expecting two very different approaches to these two fighters, predominantly around their progression.
Dylan Cheema was a raw underdog going into the lightweight tournament, he had the smallest record of all the fighters competing (2-0). He has already become a two-time kick-boxing world champion, so there is no need to rush into this different discipline. Having a win over Rylan Charlton so early on in your career can only be a good sign of what is to come.
I am expecting a relaxed and tactical performance by Cheema, building momentum to a strong finish to 2022.
Cori Gibbs may need to be progressed a little faster than Cheema.
If you look at the other fighters at super-lightweight with similar record (16-0) to Gibbs in Britain, he’s a little behind them. However, with wins over Sean Dodd, Lee Appleyard, and Tom Farrell in the super-lightweight tournament, he is gaining the momentum and confidence to be moved quickly.
Having the backing and support from BOXXER and Sky Sports will allow Cheema and Gibbs to gain the momentum and guidance they need.
The Undercard
The rematch between River Wilson Bent and Tyler Denny will once again contest English middleweight title, the second English title fight on Sky Sports in two weeks.
Kaisee Benjamin, Shakiel Thompson, Scott Forrest, and the talented Irishman Aaron Mckenna also feature.
